3 Filters You'll Actually Use - Arturia

I used to think that filters are just effects that change the frequency content of a sound. I pretty much used them solely to create the famous DJ lowpass/highpass effect to add tension and maybe add a little sidechain to get original with the envelopes.Little did I know that filters can actually transform any sound into polyrhythmic Arpeggiators. Arturia's newly released "3 Filters You'll Actually Use" are packed with presets that are ready to use in your productions! Arturia 3 Filters You'll Actually Use

Why use different filters?

If you think that all Filters are the same (like me) and that you might as well use your DAW’s native plugin like Ableton’s Auto-Filter, you will want to add these creative tools to your sound design palette.(I made a video trying out all of the presets below) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A2N22LfxjQEnter your email for a copy of the music at the end of the video.[mc4wp_form id="35"]

1. SEM-V: The SEM filter

The SEM-Filter is a very nice filter and when I say nice, yes I mean to consider it as a person. This filter gives an intimate touch to your sounds and you can feel the analog filter by cranking that resonance.The SEM-Filter can create interesting rhythms thanks to a gate sequencer and a whole bunch of modulation possibilities.  It also has a tweakable input noise that lets you turn any sound crispy.I do feel like I am using a programmable calculator when I look at the GUI.Arturia Filter SEM

2. Mini-V: The filter from the Mini-V

The Mini-V filter takes its name after a very successful synth (Mini-V) that was essentially replicating the all known Bob Moog analog synthesizer, and adding extra features that are hardly possible in analog form. Therefore having the Mini-V filter by itself is the equivalent of owning a legendary piece of modular equipment on steroids. The Mini-V filter surprised me as I never knew how powerful it could actually get. I ended up using it in the choir in my track Salvation, making the voices bounce on that step sequencer with the famous color of the drive and emphasis of the Mini-V.Arturia Filter Mini-V

3. M12-V: from the Matrix 12

This one is my personal favorite. In keeping with the current range of Arturia plugins, M12-V is an ergonomic dream.Steering away from modeling the appearance of an analog unit (which, I have to admit, I think looks awesome in most cases), M12-V instead opts for a more scientific GUI.As users who have a great relationship with the sophisticated Matrix-12 and the 1984 Xpander interfaces, the M12-V will be an awesome way to bring this legacy to the signal flow of any DAW, making its sound design capabilities applicable to any sound.Arturia Filter M12

Should you buy the Arturia 3 Filters Bundle?

For its fair price and all it can do, including the presets that all sound pretty decent, I would say yes. As a regular consumer of VSTs Plugins from not just Arturia but all of the main companies including Native Instruments, iZotope, Spectrasonics and Serum, I can say that Arturia found a way to provide simple yet powerful plugins that will definitely stand out in my library
